A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Carbonized Records have just put out a very cool looking new 7″ vinyl release featuring two Death Metal bands, French quartet Skelethal and French/Canadian four piece Outre-Tombe. Quebecois Outre-Tombe (Translates to Beyond the Grave) are on Side A with their new track ‘Sacrilege’. If rampaging riffs with a thick gloomy atmosphere is your thing then you’ll be right at home here. ‘Sacrilege’ is a fast paced dose of lo-fi Death Metal, driven forth by carnage inducing drum tones, raw savage vocals and simplistic guitar leads contrasted by dazzling guitar solos. It feels a little cluttered in places by the sheer destructiveness of the bands sound sees them through.

Side B features Lille band Skelethal’s offering, entitled ‘Carnal Deceivers’, which offers up pretty much the same thing as Outre-Tombe, only with better production and mixing and as a result, a slightly more cavernous sound. Skelethal can also boast a catchier sound and their vocal work is of a more intensive growling nature.

A decent little split release, although prices on this range from $13 to $16 which for a ten minute record seems a little steep. That said, the artwork looks damn cool!
