A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Great beer, good Death Metal scene. I could have won the “describe Belgium in one sentence” game over here! Neverlight Horizon is one of those bands in that particular scene. After releasing 2 demos, 1 EP and 1 full length under the banner of Deadsun Records, Shiver Records thought “The hell with it, we are going to release their new album!”.

‘No Heaven…only Torment’ is the name and brutal Death Metal is the game. Fortunately a game I still love to listen to despite the many many many releases during the last years. These Belgians are in the US Death metal category with a little twist towards the early 1990s scene. Suffocation, Severe Torture during their ‘Feasting of Blood’ album and sometimes old Cannibal Corpse pops into mind.

Especially during ‘Possessed By Hatred’ an ‘Eaten Back to Life’ (‘Edible Autopsy’ to be precise) riff can be clearly recognized. The vocals aren’t guttural low as you would expect, but more in the old Krisiun style. ‘No Heaven…Only Torment’ is definitely not a bad album but if has been done better in the past.

Still, always nice to hear that old Cannibal Corpse riffing so hopefully the band develops into that area.
