A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

The year 2022 saw Mortify’s ‘Grotesque Buzzsaw Defilement’ EP being reissued on various formats, but it was also the year that this (very) short new EP saw the light of day in this miserable world. Long-term companions Obliteration Records released it on a nice looking 3” shaped mini CD.

Most of the times EP’s are about 15 minutes or so, maybe 10 or maybe 20, but at least they give you something to chew on. Not so much for this one, ‘Buzzsaw Sickness’ in total is as short as your regular single Grindcore track, these five tracks are totalling less than 3 minutes. Musically they are a clear continuation of the work that they have previously presented, meaning they worship the early Necrony sound, blending a good portion of Carcass-like Grindcore to the foundation of Dismember/Carnage sounding Swedish Death Metal. Or, depending on your frame of reference, they had some Death Metal to their Grindcore. Regardless of how you look (listen) to it, Mortify is delivering its gory art in quite familiar fashion. Familiar or not, they probably won’t win the originality prize, ‘Buzzsaw Sickness’ is just what you think it is. Nothing more, nothing less, but that is working just fine.
