With ‘Decay of Ancient Orders’, Salien delivers a demo that captures the essence of traditional Black Metal while showing enough personality to stand apart from simple nostalgia. The raw production complements the material well, preserving the underground aesthetic without sacrificing the clarity needed for the riffs to shine. Musically, the band alternate icy tremolo passages with slower, heavier moments that reinforce the release’s atmosphere of decline and desolation.
The harsh vocals fit naturally within the bleak soundscape, while the songwriting remains focused throughout, avoiding the trap of relying solely on speed or aggression. Despite its relatively short running time, the demo feels cohesive and carefully structured. Salien may still be at the beginning of their journey, but this first release demonstrates a clear understanding of Black Metal’s foundations and enough promise to warrant attention for future recordings.
