A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

This band, Godless, is another great addition to the, again, evergrowing amount of bands that try to recreate the vibe of old school, evil sounding, metal. Some people are sick and done with death metal sounding like Dying Fetus and all the ‘false’ death metal. Godless takes this step back in history and leans more on their biggest influences, like old Incantation, Morbid Angel and Immolation. Basically the big three of the genre, and if you are a completist, you might want to add some Sadistic Intent too.

Basically this is a re-edition of a mini CD, released by a Chilean label not worthy to mention, now re-done in a double 7” format – one that’s getting more rare these days, no label seems to be interested in releasing such great documents anymore. This just a fantastic ride throughout the whole old school death metal scene from the USA back in the days. The aforementioned Morbid Angel, Incantation, Immolation and Sadistic Intent but also Necrophagia, old Malevolent Creation, Acheron. Musically varying between up tempo and the slower parts, great pummeling drums and the immense dark atmosphere makes this one of the better EP’s in the genre. Rather close to “Blessed Are The Sick” I would say, so if this is your cup of tea…

Basically, five ten ago this would’ve been a trip down memory lane, but nowadays there is a whole new generation of bands that cherish the death metal of old. Godless can easily be added to the likes of Necrovation, Dead Congregation and Necros Christos. All hail the new generation of death metal bands!
