Yxxan – Misanthropic Impulse

yxxan – misanthropic impulse

Info

In 2019 and 2020 the world was treated to two demos of an obscure one-woman act from Sweden. Yxxan presented itself in a total savage and unforgiving way, the overall relentless pummelling and uncultivated song writing on both demos was only appetizer of what was to come on Morbid Aggressor’s first full-length. That appeared on the last day of 2023 via Nuclear War Now! Productions, that was also responsible for the release of Yxxan’s second demo almost three years before.

Morbid Aggressor has been stirring her pots for quite some time, and seemingly, she was brewing something really nasty. As nasty and primitive as the front cover, so is the music. Not much has changed since the release of her two demos (both also compiled on vinyl by Nuclear War Now! Productions), things got only more intensified. With the very basics of Black and Death Metal as the fundamental cornerstone, she knows how to throw in the most vicious and relentless elements out of the Scandinavian Punk/Hardcore scene. The result is a never-ending beating and whipping of whirling riffs, suffocating drums and Morbid Aggressor’s hoarse and rabid vocals.

When musical parallels should be drawn, Yxxan comes closest to a more punky and less down-tuned version of bands like Conqueror, Naked Whipper, Blasphemy, Archgoat or maybe even Revenge. But regardless of what you hear in the almost 30 minutes of sonic abuse that is ‘Misanthropic Impulse’, it is definitely not for the weak of heart.

Pretty much like the evil Gorgonic Medusa on the cover, ‘Misanthropic Impulse’ is essentially a splendour that is enchanted and invisible by ordinary souls, only those who dare to come closer will be able to unravel its true beauty. Though at the risk of being petrified, or perhaps it is precisely because of that stony fate that it then reveals its true nature and brilliance.
