It’s easy to say ‘Demo MMXXVI’ genuinely sounds like it’s leading you somewhere you shouldn’t be. Haruspex Chants infuses these three expansive songs with the feel of one slow, heavy trudge, luring you in.
It has kind of a ghostly feel to it. The vocals feel very thick even though they seem distant, and then you get the guitar tones floating above everything nicely. Those gaps are just as crucial as the chunks of destruction they create make everything just feel vast.
Spectral Voice was by far the most accurate comparison to me while listening. The Death/Doom feeling is there, but the music is just as important here as the heaviness. You get the feeling Haruspex Chants knows that simply crawling on for 8 minutes isn’t sufficient. These passages really pivot and dip, before pulling back up to the surface.
This is some powerful Death/Doom that I want to hear more of. It’s sinister, overwhelming and really heavy, but with enough movement that the longer tracks don’t lose any momentum.
