Throne of Katarsis – Unholy Holocaustwinds [Demo]

throne of katarsis – unholy holocaustwinds [demo]

Info

Throne of Katarsis is yet another great underground Black Metal band hailing from the south eastern part of Norway. Started in 2002 by Grimnisse and Vardalv, the band released their debut demo ‘Unholy Holocaustwinds’ last year as a self financed release. Because the interest in the band was so immensely huge, Turkish label Likmarkji Records decided to make a re-release on cd-r earlier this year. Furthermore another re-release as a limited tape on Warfront Production will be out as well in the not so distant future.

I have in front of me the original first pressing by the band itself. Packed in a very bad xeroxed cover/booklet one can expect the worst but in fact this demo turned out quite the contrary. Grim atmospheric Black Metal is what Throne of Katarsis presents us and they do this with a lot of style and pride. Three tracks with a total duration of almost 25 minutes is what you get. And I have to say I really like this band a lot.

The most of the times mid-paced atmospheric depressive Black Metal contains a lot of acoustic guitars which occasionally remind me to Immortal’s ‘Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism; album and Carpathian Forest’s ‘Through Chasm, Caves and Titan Woods’ mini-album. Because of the moaning vocals and the hypnotizing guitar riffs in ‘Symbols of winter’ I also had to think of Mayhem and to be more precise the track ‘Life Eternal’ from the legendary album ‘De Mysteriis dom Sathanas’.
It is said that this demo was recorded in only eight hours but to my surprise ‘Unholy Holocaustwinds’ sounds quite acceptable.

Because the original first pressing is sold out by now I advice interested ones to try to get hold of either the re-released cd-r by Likmarkji Records or the tape released by Warfront Production. Mark my words; Throne of Katarsis will become one of the ‘big’ bands in the underground Black Metal scene…and they fully deserve it.
