Tarokulith / Necromoon – Tarokulith / Necromoon [Split]

tarokulith / necromoon – tarokulith / necromoon [split]

Info

As the title already suggests, this Anti-Human Productions release combines Tarokulith and Necromoon, two entities that like to thumb their noses at things like musical subtlety and other frivolities. Necromoon has reached these pages before, but despite Tarokulith already slinging two demos into the world in 2023 (and even releasing them as a bundled compilation in the same year), these Canadians had not reached my ears before. A good time to change that, methinks.

First up is Tarokulith. With their combined experience in Gotthammer, besides also being active in bands like Kiloton, Complot!, Vicsous, Demonarchy, Moulin Banal and Pénombre (just to name a few), you might already have an idea where this is going. If you thought Gotthammer was a sonically barbaric godslaying band, I can imagine that the ideas that were a bit too noisy for Gotthammer ended up with Tarokulith. This one 12+ minutes song indeed starts as a more noisy Gotthammer-like song, yet it sounds way sharper in tone and even a tad more chaotic. But the most striking difference, however, is the second part of the track that is just downright Black Noise. Not much into the more devastating Kiloton-fashion, but with an equally sharper sound as the first half of the track. Disturbing and certainly not for the faint of heart.

The Poles of Necromoon then also make a stab at it with their contribution to this split. An 8-minute song that feels much in line with their debut album that was released earlier this summer through Poland’s Putrid Cult label. A vigorous but at the same time atmospheric piece of Black/Death Metal that harkens back to the genre’s early stages. In the review of ‘War With Tyranny’ I already mentioned a few musical parallels, these are still very much on par, yet especially in the second half of this new song they went for an even mroe thoroughly doomy approach. That is something that was already more or less evident on the full-length album, but the band clearly choses to shift more into these gloomy territories. Subsequently, the result is something that will definitely appeal to fans of bands like Goatlord and Beherit – a remark I already made in the previous review as well. A truly noisy and hallucinating piece of dark art.
