Following on from the recently released ‘War With Tyranny’ album, Canadian Anti-Human Productions not only releases a split tape with Tarokulith but also this new EP. Six new songs, together accounting for just over 16 minutes of even more foul and obscure Black/Doom Metal…
When comparing these new tracks with ‘War With Tyranny’, it is clear that the conclusion I more or less drew after listening to the Tarokulith-split tape seems to be reinforced with ‘Obedience’. The band is increasingly shifting to a more primal and bass-heavy Black/Doom sort of sound. Although there is still an obvious echo of early Profanatica in it, the direction is abundantly clear: it is all about early Barathrum, Goatlord, Root, Beherit and Necro Schizma. Predominantly slow and utterly obscure.
While it might not be all that easy to swallow for the majority of the Nuclear Blast mailinglist subscribers, the current underground musical climate seems more receptive to this sort of music than, say, ten years ago. They might not be completely comparable, but bands like Moenen Of Xezbeth and Perverted Ceremony do more or less convey a similar atmosphere and find their inspiration in more or less the same sort of bands. Hence, aficionados from that musical background would certainly do well to give Necromoon a shot.
