San Diego “Black Metal of Death” warriors Lucemortis have unleashed a two-song, rehearsal-style promo entitled ‘Black Death Esoterica’. This is a straightforward, go for the throat demonstration of what one of their live ritual entails.
I had the (dis)pleasure of catching the 3 piece at the motherland of SoCal heavy metal venues, Brick by Brick, late last year along side Hulder and Abyssal (MEX), and can confidently confirm the raw and violent audial assault that you hear on this promo accurately captures what the band is all about. Blast beats, angular and sharp guitar riffing, and bestial, reverb soaked vocals.
There’s not much that this demo hides, it wears its influences and mission on its horned and spiked sleeves, and wastes no time hacking and slashing away at the listener using blackened weapons of metallic death.
Reviewing this for what it is, Lucemortis have done a fine job of capturing the essence of one of their live rituals, and conjures a violent display of SoCal extremity which successfully infects the listener with just enough of a dose of evil to ensure they’ll crawl back begging for more.
