A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Norwegian Black Metal band Likheim is the brainchild of one Gretn, a multi-instrumentalist and song writing from Asker. His debut EP is entitled ‘Alt Skal Svinne Hen...’ and has been put out on CD through Underground Kvlt Records. Sporting a forceful and grinding style of punishing yet slightly melodic Black Metal, Likheim combines cold unwavering riffs, a pummelling drumming style and a bass heavy groove that powers forward with methodical, calculating determination. whilst the vocal work has a tendency to deviate from the standard grim sounding growls to a more desperate, rising tone. Of particular fascination to me is the inclusion of subtle, haunting atmospheric touches within the undertone of the EP, so whilst the general flow of this release is crushing intensity, it does still carry a flavour of wind swept mountain passes in winter; traditional Black Metal fare I’m sure you’ll agree, but done ever so well. So for me, this debut EP sounds like a labour of love from a man obsessed with 90’s Black Metal, and this stirring and confident EP is the by product of that obsession.
