Ancient Necromancy from US operates in that shadow‑ridden corner of raw Black Metal where atmosphere is everything: murky, occult, and ritualistic. Their music feels less like songs and more like summoned states, a kind of sonic séance where decay, trance, and spectral violence intertwine.
The band was formed in 2020 and the 2020 demo as well as the 2024 compilation CD (Dark Adversary) were reviewed at VM-Underground.
‘With Souls Stained, and Hearts Forever Black, We Gaze upon Severed Heavens’ is the 2026 demo and new recording since 2021. Available on digital format and CD-R through Perverse Homage and it contains 11 tracks.
Ancient Necromancy is filthy, necrotic Black Metal built on damp, cavernous production, hypnotic repetition, and occult ritual ambience, evoking the feeling of wandering through crypts lit only by dying candles.
Guitars are drenched in filth, often mid‑tempo or droning, forming a suffocating wall rather than sharp melodic lines. The distortion feels like it’s corroding itself. Tracks frequently incorporate dungeon‑like reverb, echoing chants, or eerie synth layers that mimic ritual spaces, tombs, or abandoned sanctuaries. Instead of blast‑driven chaos, they lean into slow‑burn tension: long, repetitive passages that feel like incantations rather than traditional song structures. Vocals are distant, buried, and ghostly, more like curses whispered through a veil than screams.
Their aesthetic revolves around necromancy, death‑rites, and esoteric darkness, expressed through both sound and imagery. The music reminds strongly of Sanguine Relic, Orgy Of Carrion, Lampir, Vampirska, Akasha, Obsidian Grave, even some Pa Vesh En if we’re name-dropping.
In short, it is an awesome new recording! It’s great to hear from this US Raw Black Metal band again. Fans of the band and its genre ought to check out Perverse Homage or other distros for the goodies.
