‘Undergång’ is the second album from Swedish Avskräde on Purity Through Fire, released end 2023. On this album the band leans even more heavily into old-school pure fucking Swedish Black Metal, thus deepening the ferocious intensity and melodic undercurrents of their music.
The vocals are abrasive and front-and-center, perfectly paired with tremolo-picked riffs and blistering drumming, the cold, sinister guitar work shines when it locks in with the vocals, creating chilling, menacing textures. Lyrics are in Swedish again but don’t let that hold you back – its add an extra layer of menace to the songs.
We get 11 well-defined conchise songs that channel the spirit of an early Darkthrone, ‘Total Death’/’Ravishing Grimness’ era, in the grimmest fashion possible and with a relentless drive and energy.
Production is excellent and adds to an immersive Black Metal experience. Those who enjoyed the 2021 ‘Det stora tunga sjuka’ debut won’t be disappointed to add this gem to their collection.
