Info

Serocs is a Mexican band with a leader the multi-instrumentalist Antonio Freyrre. “The Phobos/Deimos Suite” is the band’s fourth full-length album and the first for the Italian label Everlasting Spew Records. The record offers ten tracks of technical death metal with lyrics dealing mainly with psychology (not that you will get anything by just listening the grunts of the vocalist Laurant Bellemare). What is obvious is that the guys in Serocs are very talented musicians, you can hear lots of twisted patterns on the guitars, bass and drums. I don’t know if it is the fact that Serocs are actually living in Canada nowadays but their music carries a strong Cryptopsy/Gorguts resemblance.

The problem comes with the lack of the primitive sheer brutality that is a characteristic of Cryptopsy’s music and is lacking in the songs of Serocs. You can get lost in the vortex of technical themes and at the end little can be remembered from the actual track. The sound production is on a very good level and there is an excellent sound of the bass guitar. So if you are looking for something that is quite deep into the technical side of metal then check out Serocs by any means. Personally I prefer my music more simple… (Zvetan)
