A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Info

Of all the Apparitions out there, this one comes from Los Angeles, California. ‘Granular Transformation’ is their second EP, originally released in 2020 but now re-released by the Mexican Chaos Records together with the band’s debut EP ‘Subarachnoid Space’.

What you get here are five tracks of dark Doom/Death metal in the vein of Incantation or Autopsy. Guttural vocals, heavy guitar riffs and the pounding drumming provided by Andrew Morgan (who is also the vocalist) are the ingredients of this release. The opening track ‘Soul Secretion’ strikes hard and submerges you into the macabre universe created by Apparition. The following ‘Fluid Memories’ brings forth some melodic riffs that increase the atmosphere of utter darkness. This track in particular reminds me of the Australian band Disembowelment with its heaviness combined with a little bit mellower passages.

The last three tracks (those of the first EP) have somehow thinner sound compared to the first two but are still qualitative Doom/Death metal.

If Incantation is a band that you adore then Apparition is something to look out for!
