A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Putrevore is the collaboration of two of Death Metal’s most prolific veterans, Rogga Johansson (Paganizer, Ribspreader, Revolting among many others) and Dave Rotten (Avulsed, Christ Denied, Famishgod, Holycide, Xtreem Music). Together they have recorded quite a few records already, this ‘Miasmal Monstrosity’ (from the end of 2021) is their fourth album and seventh release in total.

For those who never heard anything of Putrevore yet, it basically sounds like a blend of Avulsed and Paganizer/Ribspreader. Lots of slightly choppy, Swedish riffs and rolling double-bass drumming and of course Dave Rotten’s trademark deep, guttural vocals. Yet, it has a bit more variety than your average Paganizer records, mostly in terms of changes of pace and the riffs, sometimes even going into quite speedy territories. That makes the music sound a little less boggy and slightly less Autopsy-ridden. Usually Johansson cranks out one album after the other, with the result that quite some of them sound a little uninspired and that quantity seems more important than quality. To some extent that also counts for Putrevore, as ‘Miasmal Monstrosity’ does hardly offer anything that is worth hitting the ‘replay’ button for, but then again, it is not all that bad. If you liked Avulsed’s latest offering, 2015’s ‘Altar Of Disembowelment’ 10” EP, then this new Putrevore album might be to your liking as well.
