A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Oftentimes I find modern raw Black Metal has just become oversaturated and will never really live up to what it used to be. Then I heard Vargaur, a mysterious German Black Metal project who have just put out one of the best raw Black Metal demos I’ve heard in years. If you aren’t that into Black metal then turn away now, this isn’t going to be what changes your mind. If you’re a fan of everything raw, cold and evil then I can’t recommend this enough.

The vocals are bare bones screams, they remind me a lot of Drowning the Light or ‘Pentagram’ era Gorgoroth. This really adds to the nihilistic and hateful atmosphere that the demo presents to listeners. I’m also a huge fan of the drumming, it dominates the mix and the sound quality is pretty rough but if you like this style of Metal then you should be expecting that from a release like this. The guitars manage to conjure a great atmosphere too, there’s nothing particularly flashy but there doesn’t need to be, that’s what makes the demo so memorable for me, it’s aggressive and savage but still has something of a meditative, hypnotic atmosphere.

The demo is also just over ten minutes long so you have absolutely no excuse not to give it a listen.
