Info

Oh boy, I really enjoy the combination of Black Metal and Hellas, although I must immediately add that my love for that blend stems from how the scene sounded between 1993 and 1995. Fortunately for me, there are increasingly more new bands embracing the old sound.

Omenloth hails from Greece but draws from a different well. This debut album leans more towards what people on social media nowadays would characterise as Blackened Death, though I’d personally call it modern Black Metal that doesn’t shy away from using synths.

Musically, it ranges from melodic to atmospheric with an occasional blast beat when the tempo picks up. But you’ll also hear, for instance, a doomy riff; in other words, there’s plenty of variation on ‘Omenloth’. To underscore a certain atmosphere, the use of the Duduk during ‘Tree House’ is a fine example. You hear a kind of subdued, lower form of a saxophone, but somehow it immediately brought to mind Necromantia’s ‘The Arcane Light of Hecate’ from their ‘Scarlet Evil Witching Black’ album.

If you can imagine the later Norwegian Symphonic Black Metal albums, but a less bombastic and less theatrical version, then there’s a strong chance you’ll appreciate this.
