The name of the label. Iron Fist Productions, on which this album is released sounded familiar to me. After some investigation, I discovered that it is an initiative of Tomas Nyqvist, also known for his zine called Putrefaction. He also played bass in this band for a while, but no longer, and he also re-released the two demos by Merciless as EP. And Merciless happens to be the band that comes to mind when listening to Maze Of Torment.
Not because Maze Of Torment copies Merciless, but because they too make such incredibly cool Thrash Metal, just like Merciless once did. Aggressive, raw Thrash Metal with some Death Metal influences is what you get thrown at you! If I’m correct, this is already their second CD, because in the Dutch Aardschok magazine of October ’97, an album called ‘The Force’ was already reviewed. In Voices Forces from the Darkside zine no. 10 there is also an interview with these guys.
Unfortunately, this 9-track album only lasts about 31 minutes, so I’m going to have to find ‘The Force’ as well. If you’re looking for a band that doesn’t give a damn about the nowadays trends, Black Metal and Melodic Death Metal the Gothenburg-style, and just thrashes away, your search is over!
