Honestly, I believe nothing in existence has as many subgenres as metal (maybe porn, but that belongs in some other writing) and all of them are mainly based on the word ‘brutal’. I sincerely despise that word and people who are only able to describe music they have heard with it. You’re not really doing a band behind that music a favor as you’re just selling their music ridiculously short and in a lot of cases, unflattering. There’s so much more to music than just being called ‘brutal’, because ‘brutal’ is a synonym for violence and violence comes in many forms.

While everyone is familiar with physical violence, psychological violence rarely takes the stand alone. Doesn’t even need factual contact, yet it can cause long term damage, if not mental trauma, which is incredibly difficult to deal with or get rid off.

And this is where Impetuous Ritual come in. Claustrophobic tension, sleep paralysis and dyspnea in music form. As most fans describe metal in most of its endless number of subgenres as ‘heavy and fast’, this is certainly heavy, but there’s nothing fast about it. Nightmarish slow leaking behind its next victim until it fills the entire place, no matter how big this place is, with existential dread and freezing cold, slowly entering the victims body through many of the openings, ripping the victim apart from the inside and liquefying it into the matter which entered the room in the beginning of the process. Absolutely no survivors here (if you’re still here, you haven’t really listened to it).

During four albums released by Impetuous Ritual so far, the band mixed up the perfect formula of dissonance, disharmonia, dread and death, which on ‘Iniquitous Babarik Synthesis’ reaches its climax in the monstrous 12 minute offering with a ridiculously adequate title ‘Psychic Necrosis’, which literally sounds like a nightmare as structuring songs is apparently something this band doesn’t do (if they do, it’s done loosely, which might give the initial nightmare a sort of a tangible feeling, done just to deceive the victim). Your nightmares don’t come in chapters, do they?

Abyssal death metal has spawned some amazing acts since its conception, but it’s usually only the ones who take it to the absolute extremes who leave the mark. Impetuous Ritual have perfected their way of creating long term mental trauma in aural form very early on (hints of it can be traced in the bands predecessor, Internecine Excoriation) and thus far progressed with adding more and more of that horrendous nightmarish darkness, cold and dread to it, without overdoing it or turning themselves into a caricature of their work. And yes, that’s something absolutely amazing.
