Icon of Evil – Icon of Evil [EP]

icon of evil – icon of evil [ep]

Info

A gnarly little Death Metal 7″ vinyl release from Selfmadegod Records. Wroclaw, Poland based Icon of Evil put this slice of aggression out back in 2020 and it’s certainly worth a listen, and if I found this in a record shop the artwork would certainly have made me take a second look too. Featuring just the two tracks and weighing in just short of ten minutes, Icon of Evil play straight up chugging Death Metal that plummets into the depths of intensity through down tuned, furious riffs, punishing growled vocal work and a sturdy backline of crushing bass tones and a ravenous drumming style. Icon of Evil’s guitar leads range from slow, methodical odes to sinister darkness, to more technical sounding grinding fast paced sections that bear more than a passing resemblance to fellow Polish Death Metal titans Decapitated. Icon of Evil though have a far more intensive sound and have a catchiness to some of their furious riffs and beats that the previously mentioned band don’t dwell in. I’d definitely like to hear some new material from this deathly troupe. (Marksson)
