Dräkul – Mondgesänge [EP]

dräkul – mondgesänge [ep]

Info

Let’s start by dismembering this damn work with some information about who Dräkul is. The band was formed in 2024 and is made up of two entities from Brazil, specifically from Sao Paulo. What they show us with this EP is a true worship to the old European Black Metal.

The song ‘Schrapnell von Traumen’ attacks with hypnotic riffs that balance on the abysmal edge of Burzum’s ‘Filosofem’ and the guitar tone of the great ‘Under A Funeral Moon’, possessing a brilliant, cutting equalization and reverb, creating the sensation of being confined in some forgotten coffin. This sound and tone shows its fangs as an introduction to the bloody world in which Dräkul wants to enslave us. The torture becomes eternal with repetitive tremolos along with the keyboards acting as accompaniment, creating the malignant atmosphere until death 5 minutes into the journey.

The second lash is ‘Mondgesänge der Tyrannemvampire’, and it is the one that has caught me the most—a mid-tempo rhythm marked by the sequenced drums but without standing out in terms of volume, only marking the times and the changes in intervals with the characteristic sound of digital turntables. The predominant thing that is heard is the main riff that torments the step with its proud and enveloping cadence that is easy to hum.

Finally, they close with ‘Drakuls Blutrungstiger Erbe’. I think it was right to leave the song with more rhythmic variations and musical elements within the Black Metal spectrum for the end. According to my vague translation, ‘The bloodthirsty heir of the Dragon’ attacks us by surprise with a scream straight to the neck while the rhythmic cadence glides easily like fog in the night. ‘In the confines of the castle, I just murmur, Like a creature, No hope of light, Dragon Heir, Bloodthirsty void, A son without a path of Noble Dracul’.

Dräkul is not a band that will surprise you or that will enjoy the merit of having vomited up ‘A Blaze in the Northern Sky’ part 2, but they do show off their musical influences and misanthropic and vampiric ideology using elements of hypnotic and atmospheric Black Metal without creating outlandish sounds and frequency peaks. Taking into account the programmed drums, the recording sounds more or less organic without reaching the extremes of analog, something that in the past was handled very well by Limbonic Art or the vampire Charmand Grimloch (Tartaros).

That said, you know what to expect and you have been warned!
