Do you worship at the throne of Grave Miasma or Disma? Does that heavy lumbering Doom Death sound of Father Befouled perk up your ears at a moment’s notice? Well, listen up because do I have a release for you to sink your teeth into. I have been watching and listening to Dead Chasm since their inception, primarily because the members and their other bands, Pyra, who are sort of Ulcerate in approach and Psychotomy are more Death/Thrash. Granted, there is a bit of similarity between the bands above, I would if push came to shove take Dead Chasm as the best soundwise to my ears. So I’m here to tell you why I made this assessment.

Much like the bands I previously mentioned, Dead Chasm have an oppressive, pummeling sound but with an added element of speed interjected within the songs. The songwriting is tight and played with a weighty fervor that can be both foreboding and ominous, especially in the guitar riffing of vocalist Lorenza. Just listen to the final track ‘Spawn In Absurdity’ The tone, the mood is almost Asphyx like in sound and when that bass kicks in it just rattles your insides. Then at the end there is a moment it seems the band is going for a speedy finish but takes it down to that crawl to close out the album. This optimizes the overall tone of the album and a prime example of the Death Doom sound. I’m generalizing, but sometimes bands within this genre may try to innovate in the songwriting department. and or incorporate a different technique to the overall approach, but I think at that stage bands are missing the point. This is DEATH DOOM. It needs to be bludgeoning, it needs to be simplistic, and the way Dead Chasm plays, it fits the bill to the proverbial T. I stress, this is not caveman-like in its approach because there are moments we can dig our teeth into, and also at times, if and when these tracks are played live, I could almost see a moshpit being formed from the intensity of some of the tracks.

They know what the sound needs, and they club you over the head with it in a delightful fashion. Hence, another reason for my enthusiasm for the band. With this release, it’s only 3 tracks and just about 15minutes in length. A perfect foray or maybe an introduction to the band for those that are uninitiated. The band seems to have started a certain rhythm going of EP, full-length, EP. So hopefully we can know what to expect next.
