The aptly titled ‘Into The Glory Of Violence’ is Åndutsyn’s fourth instalment and follows last year’s great ‘The Epitome Of The End Of The Cavernous Forestry’, which was a splendid Lo-Fi Black Metal treat. Since that previous demo the band expanded from a solo endeavour to a duo. With the addition of Scheunen on drums, it seems that Åndutsyn is at the beginning of a new era…
While the addition of the new band member clearly also has its effect on the recordings, it is certainly not the only thing that stands out. Even with the best will, ‘Into The Glory Of Violence’ cannot be called a nicely polished demo, but it is certainly a lot less Lo-Fi than its predecessor. The omission of an overly gritty sound gives these new songs a much more powerful character. It may have lost a bit of atmosphere as a result, but the solidly rocking drive in the music certainly benefits from this musical punch as well.
Regardless of the productional packaging, Åndutsyn’s core business remains unchanged. It may be slightly more or less prominent here or there, but Åndutsyn’s existence still revolves around the worship of the great Ildjarn. Apart from the Punk Rock-like track placed somewhere in the middle of the demo, ‘Into The Glory Of Violence’ is once again a treat for the ears of anyone who holds this Norwegian visionary dear. The bass-heavy rumblings and generally stripped-down approach is as authentic as you can possibly get it.
Simple but effective, bold in its simplicity and brazen in its aggressive heaviness. Should you also have a soft spot for that distinctive stomping Ildjarn sound, then ‘Into The Glory Of Violence’ really should not be skipped; you have been forewarned.
