Blutsauger are an Apocalyptic/Raw Black Metal duo from Gorizia, Friuli‑Venezia Giulia, Italy. The project centers on H. Škrat (guitars, bass, vocals) and Hörske (guitars), with session/guest drums credited to Aasimar on the full‑length debut ‘Nocturnal Blood Tyrants’. Their aesthetic and lyrical focus draws on Transylvanian and Austro‑Hungarian folklore, nocturnal vampiric imagery, and a deliberately raw early‑’90s Black Metal sound.
The music on this is described as raw, uncompromising Black Metal, intentionally rooted in early‑1990s rawness, with buzzsaw guitars, demonic evil vocals and insane double bass drumming. Musical influences range from old Gorgoroth, Marduk and Mütiilation for the morbid vampiric atmosphere.
Expect no melodic melancholic vibes here: a deliberate rancid lo‑fi/old‑school production keeps the instruments well defined but also preserves a morbid and crude expression.
Every track is a merciless bestial onslaught that only slows down to emphasize the more morbid, trance‑like tendencies associated with the French underground as can be heard on the last track.
There is an unnerving nihilism present in the atmosphere of the album, everything you hear being merely the emptiness tormenting your mind… ‘Nocturnal Blood Tyrants’ becomes almost meditative when listened to at full volume.
8 blood churning tracks and 33 minutes whirlwind in playing time offer a hellish experience that will leave you completely drained afterwards. I recommend this album to all extreme Black Metal mongers and musical masochists.
