A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

We live in interesting times for the average Raw Black Metal enjoyer. There are plenty of new bands and projects popping out all over the world, with varying levels of quality.

On that note, over the past few years I’ve noticed a rising interest in Grausamkeit and all the other co-related projects that carry the B.S.o.D. brand to its name. And I’m sad to say that the vast majority of music that has spawned from this particular brand of Black Metal and other genres has been quite poor.

So it’s good to see (and hear) a project that carries the Grausamkeit influence up its sleeve without sounding like an uninspired mess.

Embodied Spectre comes from the same mind behind bands like Amargor, Vampyric Winter and many more. So what we have here is a very organic and demented approach to the whole Raw Black Metal and Keller Synth genres. With croaking and disturbing vocals and very rasp guitar parts that contribute to the controlled cacophony of this demo’s 22 minutes length.

On top of that, I’d like to point out how much the more synth oriented moments shine on this demo, since the execution is much more direct to creating very dark ambient soundscapes instead of the typical weirdness that many other Keller Synth artists are so inclined.

Overall, Embodied Spectre sounds like a much more honest and competent approach to a genre that has become oversaturated with mediocre and bad releases over the past five or so years.
