Voëmmr – O ovnh intot adr mordrb

voëmmr – o ovnh intot adr mordrb

Info

The Portuguese Black Metal ensemble, Aldebaran Circle, comes forth, once again, with a new offering from one of its demonic creations: Voëmmr.

Alongside Ordem Satânica, Occelensbrigg and Trono Além Morte, Voëmmr is one of those acts still very committed in  recovering the long lost roots of true Black Metal. I am aware that this could easily take us on a never ending debate on what is real Black Metal and what is not, but those that follow the likes of the Aldebaran Circle or the Black Plague Circle, do understand the point I am trying to make…

Voëmmr presents us with its 2nd full length after “Nox Maledictvs”, released in 2017. Voëmmr’s discography is complete with a Demo (“Sombr Moebrd”) in 2018, and a Split with the American behemoth Sanguine Relic, also in 2018.

I had the opportunity to witness, live, the power and ritualistic presence of Voëmmr, at last year’s Invicta Reqviem Mass, and it was an intense experience. Far from the show big bands put out – Watain comes to mind, for example – the show centered its intensity in the band and in the music. With musicians from other well know Portuguese bands such as Holocausto em Chamas, Irae, Mons Veneris, and others, the craftsmanship and the knowledge of what this line of Black Metal is, helped when it was time to get up on stage… superb.

But now, their new offer…: released, once again through Harvest of Death, home to some of the bigger names in today’s Raw Black Metal scene, “O Ovnh Intot Adr Mordrb” gives us more of what the band is able to deliver, which is exquisite Black Metal, very loyal to the roots of the genre – the roots, again – and to the message that the genre holds. The album works as a whole and as the music flows, the atmosphere becomes pitch black and rotten.

Do not expect to find an over the top, extremely polished sound. The production work is just enough for you to be able to understand every single instrument and every single note. The vocals? Well, the vocals.

As in the majority of musical genres, the vocals work as one more instrument. In this case, the vocals, besides working as the obvious instrument, give the music the ghoulish element, the demonic scent, sometimes pronouncing words, sometimes voicing screams and hallow whispers.

It is Black Metal at its best, ladies and gents! That plain, that simple… a hymn to old times and cold days; an anthem to ancient traditions that are reborn. (DanielP)
