Hailing from Brazil, the land that spawned some of the most violent Death Metal releases in Metal history, comes Unconquerable. And I have to say, that’s a great name for a Death Metal band that delves into historical themes like this one.
Before I proceed, allow me to address the elephant in the room. Yes, the Arghoslent influence is undeniable from the esthetics to the sound production. But differently from other bands which are directly influenced by the Virginian group, like say, Grenadier or House of Atreus, which are quite technical and clean in their delivery, Unconquerable goes for a more visceral approach.
It’s like the aforementioned bands are more akin to emulating the later releases by Arghoslent. As for Unconquerable, they go for something more primal and angry, which gives them some qualities that go beyond a simple “worship band”. Yes, the influence is there, but it’s not the driving force behind the band’s work, it’s just a blueprint, and the Traditional Heavy Metal influences shine through here and here around the whole EP.
For the record, I’m not a big Death Metal fan. Hell, this is the first (and probably the last) time I’m reviewing a release in the genre in question. But If I felt so inclined it’s because ‘Imperial Genocide’ is quality EP that won’t demand much of your time and delivers on many levels of violent metallic goodness.
