I once read an article that Japanese would be the most sex-obsessed people on earth, percentage-wise, Japanese would be the biggest porn producers and consumers. Not in numerical numbers, as that would leave the US at the top, but seemingly it is really the Japanese who are the (un)crowned kings of sex and porn and I won’t be surprised if this depraved duo, of who we now have this ‘Metal Del Chivo’ in our hands, are Japan’s true sex messiahs.
With this new EP, the twosome brings four new songs and a short live set of five tracks. The basic musical concept of Sex Messiah has not really changed on this new offering. It still delivers a good and very unpolished mix of Black Metal, Death Metal and Thrash Metal, all in a rather chaotic fashion. What is noticeable, however, is that the emphasis is much less on the Death Metal oriented sound than on most of the previous work. Therefore, the title of this EP, ‘Metal Del Chivo’, actually speaks volumes and fits the cover entirely (or the other way around, which is actually more likely). ‘Metal Del Chivo’ translates to something like ‘Goat Metal’ and that is exactly what it is: brutal, ugly, hard and straightforward with beautifully gurgling vocals. Remarkably (I think) the songs are also sung in Spanish, at least they have Spanish titles – what the link between the Japanese and the Spanish language is, I don’t know exactly, but it works fine. The live tracks are even more raw in nature and reflect well the roughness and purity of the band, completely stripped down this shows Sex Messiah in all their energetic ugliness. Great EP!
