After their very strong and 5th album “Unbound” which showed a mature band, with a blend of aggressive, fierce melodic Black Metal, Sargeist return 1 year later with the EP “Death Veneration”, a logic continuation of their latest full length.
Sargeist remain aggressive, forward marching with venom spitting tongues. The production is killer, the artwork fitting (Misanthropic-Art once again) and the songs haunting, although not everything is new it feels fresh and congruent to their latest effort. Sargeist are able to write some killer melodic leads while the rhythm department smashes things around brutally. The ability to write material which ever instrument has its own voice, each his pattern is something I admire a lot, be it 70’s rock or Black Metal of the highest calibre. “To Feast On Astral Blood” for example has very memorable riff you wont hear that often. That melodic chord laden riff remains stuck in the head at every listen.
“Death Veneration” is a good dose of Black Metal once again and like its predecessor it (hopefully) will lead the way for the future of Sargeist. (DPF)
