A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Info

This is a real oddball! While the previous CD featured separate tracks, this one is essentially a single, long track. Although they’ve listed 33 titles, these are really just sections from the concept story. It’s a sci-fi take on Noah’s Ark, combined with the sci-fi avant-garde Black Metal of ex-At The Gates & ex-Grotesque Alf Svensson’s Oxiplegatz.

Humanity is threatened by a black hole, and a select group of people, along with a pair of every living creature, are sent into space to escape. Their goal: to find a new habitable planet somewhere out there. Several things happen along the way before the story reaches its conclusion.

Now, onto the music. When I first listened to this CD, I found it very disjointed. It’s quite hard to grasp at first. But if you put in a bit of effort and know the story, you’ll realize that the many changes in the music mirror the numerous changes in the narrative. What immediately grabs you, even on the first listen, is Sara Svensson’s beautiful voice, which was also impressive on ‘Worlds and Worlds’. I think this is an album that will grow on you with each listen, revealing more and more with each playthrough.

For now, I prefer the previous one, ‘Worlds and Worlds’, but for how long?
