Nattverd have returned with their new album, ‘Tidloes Naadesloes’. Originating in the home of the Second Wave of Black Metal, the town of Bergen in Norway, they deliver a viscous yet haunting style of music that would not go astray with fans of Marduk or even Gorgoroth. Soulseller Records have made this almost fifty-minute-long mass of pure horror available to the human ear, and by the look of cover, you know what you are in for.
The album begins with a vicious track, ‘Iskalde Horn’ that thrusts us right into the pits of what Nattverd seem to do so well. That being honoring the greats of the Black Metal genre but not without putting their own outlook on the music they create. Throughout the second track we can hear the melancholic eeriness fill the song as we are greeted by a nostalgic, yet haunting melody played on an unsuspecting instrument… Both of these songs really do encapsulate the dark sorrowful feeling that this band brings, but yet they do it separately. That is why ’Hvisk Deg Vekk’ would have to be my favorite song on the record.
This song goes on to carry the hypnotic sadness yet combine it with a hateful and furious riffing style to the point where I think it delivers the intended feeling of Nattverd perfectly. The rest of the record seems to follow this style, especially the track ‘De Sviande Ord Vaagar Ikje For Sitt Liv’ which combines both of these emotions very well. The tremolo picked riffing that ensues leave the listening in an almost meditative like state as the music takes control of all.
This record is cold, like all good Black Metal releases. It delivers hate in a way that all fans of Nordicwinter and Begotten will love. Overall, this is a record that is not to be missed if you are a fan of any part of Norwegian Black Metal, delivering all the aspects of the scene and a little bit more.
