A filthy little demo release from back in 2020, Caligari Records have gotten their grubby little mitts on this slice of feral sounding Nashville Death Doom Metal by Muscipula, who take their name from the Dionanea Muscipula plant that frequents the south swamps waiting for red blooded flesh! To you and I, this plant is the Venus Fly Trap, a carnivorous beast that lives beneath the putrid fauna awaiting its prey.
Likewise, Muscipula have laid their bait in the form of three very bass heavy slabs of filth encrusted Death Metal with crushing groove drenched overtones. Indeed the bass play is especially savage and sounds out with a rumbling intensive fury throughout, accompanied by raw, monstrous growling vocals, as well as guitar leads that move with all the voracity of a glacier, but with the monolithic heaviness of a menhir! That is until the closing moments of ‘Closed Shut (Enzymatic Death by Digestion)’ where suddenly a ravenous pace explodes forward briefly before crashing back to earth in a wave of swamp water and fetid vegetation!
