Lay Down Rotten – Reconquering the Pit

lay down rotten – reconquering the pit

Info

Lay Down Rotten are melodic yet aggressive Death Metal band from Herborn, Germany with already four full length albums in their discography. The beginning was set up back in 1999 by Daniel Jacoby (vocals/guitars) and Timo “Borgir” Claas(drums), both members of the already defunct Death/Thrash band E-605. After a couple of demos, Remission Records released their debut album ‘Paralysed By Fear’ in 2003 which was followed by a promotional tour together with Meatknife and Gorezone. After this tour the band’s line-up was enriched by another vovalist-Jost Kleinert from Sarx and Reincarnated who increased the power of Lay Down Rotten’s live performance. Two more albums followed (‘Cold Constructed’ from 2005 and ‘Breeding Insanity’ from 2006) and now it’s time for the last, fourth full-length album entitled ‘Reconquering The Pit’ and released via Metal Blade.

After the short intro ‘Anarchic Outburst’ there is an outburst indeed – ‘Reconquering The Pit’ explodes in the speakers and it’s clear that this CD will deliver some brutal and qualitative Death Metal. The 9 tracks are quite various and have many different elements incorporated within their structure-slow and moshing parts (in the Disbelief-influenced ‘All of This Pain’), melodic yet aggressive riffs and technical solos, fast and bursting-out passages. Those guys definitely know how to play their instruments and have lots of interesting ideas. Lay Down Rotten sound quite Swedish at places (some leads remind of the Amott’s brothers type of playing) but the band has its own face and sound much more brutal than the average Swedish Death Metal band.

Check out ‘Reconquering The Pit’ for it is a very qualitative Death Metal CD and deserves a place in every extreme Metal fan’s collection!
