Haemorrhage – Opera Medica [EP]

haemorrhage – opera medica [ep]

Info

Spain’s Haemorrage is a classic band that’s been around since the early 90’s and brings this European-style of Goregrind that sounds along the lines of fellow grinders General Surgery from Sweden, Pathologist from Czechia or the earlier output of Poland’s Aborted. HM-2 chainsaw guitars down-tuned all to hell – heavy and fuzzy with lots of mid-low end in the mix. Mid-paced Rock and Punk drum beats cut with blasts, over sewer vocals. Chunky and clunky; the sound of getting bulldozed thru a pile of gore. This EP has four tracks and a Dismember cover (a Goregrind Dismember cover(?) woah, okay!) Vocals are pitch-shifted down and sound very low and menacing. I remember listening to the earlier material from Haemorrhage, namely the “Grume” & “Apology for Pathology” (it sounds like they are apologizing on behalf of the slam band Pathology….. lol) albums when I was a teenager and enjoying them.

Expect some beers in the air mid paced rocker stuff, some chugging parts sandwiched between blasting sections with plenty of speed and nastiness in the vocals. The vocals sound wet and dry at the same time during alot of parts, they use layered vocals quite a bit. Sometimes they are a creepy deep whisper type, sometimes a little gremlin or goblin nagging at your ear. It all suits the music and is used appropriately and non annoyingly.

This is ferocious, unrelenting grinding gore music, presented in a short but sweet EP format which is a good fit for this genre where alot feels like it can happen musically in a relatively short window of time. Notably there’s what feels like a short of AC/DC type song hard rock gore track that rides this rock part BBQ Dad riff for the entire song up until until last 2 seconds where it blasts for a bit. The kick drum is so clicky here it sounds triggered to me. The Dismember cover was dope and I enjoyed that as a finale to this short but sickly sweet release.
