A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Following on from his 2020 EP ‘Runes’, Lord Gothaur and his one man Black Metal/Ambient project Burgûli returned in 2022 with a new demo entitled ‘Abans que ens engoleixi la llum’ which was released on CD through Base Record Production.

I bleated on (Pun intended) about the vocal work of Lord Gothaur during my review of his ‘Runes’ EP, likening them to a constipated goat. However, the musical output was decent and if you could block out the vocals you had a half decent chance of enjoying the release.

Well you can scrap that notion for this ‘Abans que ens engoleixi la llum’ demo. Here, Burgûli plummets to new lo-fi depths with some of the worst drumming I’ve ever heard, a stodgy bass tone and awful riffs. This is a mess, and whilst it sounds like the goat spirit inhabiting his body has finally had a shit, the resulting croaky mess is no better.

Somebody get me this part of my life back.
