Azketem’s self‑titled 2024 full‑length ‘Azketem’ is the project’s most refined, transparent, and dream‑spherical statement compared to the previous outlet, ‘Azetik’, a work where Azken’s cosmic melancholy becomes fully legible, shedding the murk of ‘Azetik’ while deepening its mystic, ascetic pulse. It is still unmistakably Azketem: long-form trance, purple-hued atmospheres, and that strange blend of austerity and grandeur, but now rendered with a clarity that feels almost ceremonial.
For those who don’t know Azketem: it’s a mixture of ambient, atmospheric Post-Black Metal, almost executed in a gentle yet solemn religious way.
Azketem’s 2024 album feels like a cathedral built from vapor: towering, translucent, and humming with a cold inner light. The reverb no longer obscures, it illuminates, stretching each riff into a ribbon of violet mist. The guitars move like slow tides under a moonless sky, while Azken’s voice, now predominantly clean, eerily emotionless, hovers above the music like a disembodied liturgical presence.
Where ‘Azetik’ was a labyrinth of shadows, ‘Azketem’ is a cosmic cloister, its corridors carved from melancholy and ascetic discipline. The songs unfurl with a ritualistic patience: long, mid-paced, trance-inducing structures that feel less composed than dreamed into being. Everything is drenched in a sense of yearning that never resolves, a gravitational pull toward some unreachable horizon.
The album’s palette is regally purple, shimmering like frost on obsidian. It is both Spartan and smothering, minimal in its components, maximal in its emotional saturation. Riffs stretch to their breaking point, then fold back on themselves like time collapsing. The drumming is authoritative yet distant, as if echoing from a cavern beneath the listener’s feet.
Azken’s vocals, clean, crystalline, almost monastic, give the music a gothic, astral solemnity, while the harsher eruptions feel like cracks in the firmament. The result is a sound that is both earthly and extraterrestrial, a fever dream of spectral mysticism.
Bombast, meditative flow, ambience and atmosphere are all that matters on ‘Azketem’. If you’re prone on relaxing and soothing Black Metal sounds, Azketem will provide.
