A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Oh boy, it’s been quite a while since I’ve given a chance to a Black/Thrash release, but reading the band’s description for this release in their bandcamp, I simply couldn’t resist.

First of all, I’m a big fan of the first of Black Metal bands like Venom, Bathory and especially Hellhammer, and I’m also an avid D&D/Old School RPG enthusiast. And despite the fact that normally RPGs are more associated with the ever growing Dungeon Synth scene and the Heavy/Power Metal crowd, it’s nice to see someone doing some sword & sorcery themed old school Black Metal for a change.

Dungeon Kvlt is a pure nostalgia trip for me, because it’s an uncompromised attempt at something any nerdy metal kid wanted to do back in their teens. Make some noisy, speedy and nasty metal around exploring moldy and perilous dungeons, murdering hordes of monsters and pillaging innumerable riches.

Of course it’s unoriginal and even tacky at some points, but who actually cares? This demo is so much unadulterated fun that it even made me want to get the dust off from my old RPG books, get some friends together and play some good old second edition D&D!

If you’re into sword & sorcery and old pulp fantasy novels, Dvngeon Kvlt is a great soundtrack to accompany you on your journeys through lands unknown. Roll for initiative, you fucker!
