Witchcraft – Sodomythic Temple [Demo]

witchcraft – sodomythic temple [demo]

Info

‘Sodomythic Temple’ marks the third and last chapter of a series of demo/rehearsal tapes that Witchcraft released independently somewhere halfway last year and which were reissued by Down With The Most High at the very end of that same year. These label versions are done on professionally duplicated tapes and, in all their rawness, give a thoroughly perfect indication on what the band stands for.

Unlike the other two tapes, the recording on this release wasn’t done at the band’s own Witchcraft Temple but at the Necrocellar and Goats Kadath Slaughter Studios. Plausibly, this was chosen because of the use of keyboards, which need a bit more attention just than live playing or simple overdubbing. But fear not, the sound on this tape is also ultra-raw and the Beherit vibe is caked so thickly that it can hardly be called a studio recording here. Incidentally, this only benefits the atmosphere and the songs. The organic keyboards, which on the other two tapes were limited to the intro and outro, help evoke a sinister atmosphere here that is close to the authentic bands of the late 80s. Out of the three tapes, these recordings are the newest too, done in 2021 (while the others were from 2015 and 2019), so it may also indicate the direction the band wants to go. Fans of bands like Mortuary Drape, Samael and the earliest Greek Black Metal bands can once again indulge in this.
