You ever just wake up at 4 a.m. and just can’t go back to sleep so you make coffee and just sit outside and watch the sun come up while thinking about things you could do to make your life better in all ways? Am I also the one who does this while listening to Unreqvited? I shouldn’t be. But no matter what time it is during the day, “Mosaic I: L’amour et L’ardeur” gives me that sensation every time.
From the atmosphere this brings is more of an uplifting one than the usual somber tone that goes along with BM. I’d say this is more of a progressive/atmospheric/shoegaze Black Metal. Think Deafheaven with a little more soundscapes and animal noises and a little less jamming and vocals.
Right out of the gate you are put overlooking a pond maybe reading your favorite book while the, “Sunrise” hits just right with the perfect shade of pastel colors and the sun peeking from clouds ever so slightly. With slow interludes for most of it, when the guitars and drums kick in you really start to feel yourself become hypnotized like watching one of those visual effects screensaver on your computer.
Moving on through the album the sensations and hypnosis do not pass. The whole thing is a beautiful thing that really gives you a good break if you constantly listen to more extreme stuff. Stick with it as it pays off and actually makes you feel good about things. Gives me a positive message in my head that really takes the edge off sometime. Pretty much the feelings when I listen to bands like, Explosions in the sky, or If trees could talk. Definitely in the same ballpark. So do yourself a favor and check it out. (JonG)
