It’s fair to say The Spirit is a complete stranger that just came around and knocked on my door. There isn’t an official demo released prior to their debut, nor many information is available about this German Blackened Death Metal horde. But I’m happy I’ve answered the door…The Spirit are one of those happy few who master the art of Death/Black Metal (or Blackened Death Metal, Deathly Black Metal or Melodic Black Metal…ask 100 people and you will get so many different opinions) and understand that the lethal combination of icy riffs and chilling melodies of the mid 1990s are exceptionally important to succeed. The songs are very well played with the right attitude towards this particular style. You don’t have to be original as not a lot of bands are still playing this kind of fine Extreme Metal. Fans of Unanimated, especially their “In the Light of Darkness” album, Dissection, Thulcandra and the No Fashion Records releases in general, should definitely check “Sounds from the Vortex” out. You will thank me later… (Ricardo)
