A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Estonian Death Metal band Swarn can easily be dismissed as yet another Swedish sounding HM2 clone, but with this comparison you don’t do this three-headed monstrosity justice. On “Whispers from beyond” Swarn composes music for people with calluses on their soul sounding deeply disturbing and uncomfortable yet fascinating and addictive. I don’t know what substances this trio was ingesting while they were composing but it sounds like a fvcked up, insane trip.

Opening track “Grimoire XIII” immediately sets the tone with a massive, grainy guitar sound, steadfast pounding drums and the heavily distorted growls of Anti Lillak, the song slowly fades into grim Sunn 0))) like constructions that demand a lot of effort from your woofers and your mental health.

Growling and roaring, the three short eruptions, “Stellar Light Photosynthesis”, “Mirror Entity” and “Fearlancers” forces their way into your skull with barbaric violence.

“Whisperer from stars” followed up by “Abysmal Hallucinations” is the start of an almost thirty-minute descent into hell. Slow, dissonant, heavy, women’s voices in the background, whispers, screams, repetitive sometimes monotonous, everything is pulled out to make you feel as uncomfortable as possible. And it works, it sticks, you continue to listen, fascinated by what might come your way.

“Whispers From Beyond” is an experience, a nightmare not created for the masses, this is art for the ones who possess stamina, for the unruly, the contrarian. (Franki_boj)
