A catchy and scorching new EP from Rotten Casket, a German and Dutch collaboration who glory in rapid fire Death Metal. Their new ‘First Nail In The Casket’ EP is the bands first offering since 2016 and they waste little time in laying down some groove drenched guitar melodies, raw and abrasive vocals, as well as straight up monstrous riffs and drumming. The band create some intensely satisfying noise from the guitars; a surging adrenaline shot of aggression and groove that blends in cohesively with the dextrous rumbling savagery of bassist Patrick van der Beek. Second track ‘Caskets on Wheels’ is particularly explosive and cuts a menacing furrow as the band surge forwards at full violent speed. I’m a fan of the vocals from Martin van Drunen who has a real feel of urgency and desperation in his style that reminds me of some of the more abrasive sounding Hardcore vocalists out there. If I had to pick fault with this EP, it would be that it is pretty much played at one speed with no variation, however its a powerful and rhythmic release that’s easy to groove along to.
