Open The Coffin is the Old School Death Metal band, or project if you like, by Cláudio Slayer to channel his passion for the beautiful art of HM-2 and Old School Death Metal in general, as his other bands are more in the Hard / Stoner Rock, Black Metal and Death / Grind vein. It’s clear Cláudio has a broad range of musical taste, which doesn’t affect the music of Open The Coffin as it is pure 100% Old School Death Metal.
Although mr. Slayer is responsible for everything concerning Open The Coffin, he does recruit a drummer with the equal lovely last name César Cyco. “Only Death Prevails” has similarities with slower Dismember, the groove of Unleashed and Under The Church. But you will also hear some twists like on “Baptized in a Grave” which has a huge early Death and Morgoth vibe going on. After the four tracks I can only conclude that “Only Death Prevails” isn’t a sensational EP, but it is certainly an enjoyable one. (Ricardo)
