The red line through this demo-tape by Swedish Death Metallers is definitely the word “old school”. Everything this demo breathes is just old school, when was the last time you got a demo tape with such home made black and white artwork? With Entombed in the thanklist? Did you see the logo? Man, this is pure nostalgia, isn’t it? This is underlined by the upcoming release of Necrovation which is an old fashioned seven inches of pure black wax. I can’t help but adoring this kind of bands, there are at least a few bands that keep it true, the way it was and meant to be. Metal…
When playing this tape the first track seems pretty chaotic and even a little aimless at first. Yet, from the second track everything gets a little more clear and so it is better to follow and to enjoy – maybe it is just that one just get used to the sound/style of the band a little first. The chaotic intent of the music never really ceases to exist, though it gets a little less. This chaotic and slightly thrashy sound resemblances bands such as early Morbid Angel for instance. But their Swedish background is also audible, this is mainly revealed in the groovy parts (the last track is the best example of this) that alternates the faster parts.
A really nice demo indeed, certainly not only for the feeling – musically young band is also pretty interesting. Though, they are never really breathtaking, but that is certainly not their goal either. Old school metal, the way I really like it – Codeword: Nostalgia!
