Huoripukki – Ikuinen kamppailu

Huorpukki (“whoremonger”) are a band from Nokia, Pirkanmaa in Finland that have been active since 2008. Several demo’s were recorded, a couple EP’s saw the light but it was until 2018, that I stumbled on a CD version of ‘Voima & Barbaria’, a 2 EP’s compilation CD released by the Polish Fallen Temple.

Huorpukki play a rather raw, crusty and barbaric Black/Death Metal: it’s horrendously feral and primitive in nature, but nonetheless cast into good songs. ‘Ikuinen kamppailu’ is their very first real full length and subsequent debut since they spawned into this world. So let’s take a listen.

Lacerating layers of screaming guitars rise from a swamp of harsh riffs, barbaric down-tuned vocals/growls and hammering blast beat drums make up their sound.  It’s Finnish alright, with hints of Ride For Revenge, 1980-ies Black Metal and soggy slow parts balancing between gory Doom/Death. Finnish Black Metal has always been darker and heavier than their Scandinavian neighbours, due to the influences of Sarcofago, Blasphemy, Beherit, punk…that can be extracted from their style.

It’s no Archgoat, no Revenge, but still firmly rooted in the Bestial genre. Pitch-black in texture and filthier than a pair of underpants that have been worn for 6 months. Huoripukki don’t give a toss about finesse – nope – it’s high octane Bestial Black/Death Metal mayhem from start to finish. And like I just said : the band doesn’t reach the morbid and sick depths of an Archgoat, yet. Although they succeed to excel in a serious barrage of blunt force trauma. Personally, I like these primitive barbarians from the North and their simple but oh so effective collision course carnage does grow on you after a couple of full volume renditions.

I’d say – a band to keep an eye on. Fallen Temple probably identifies it with their domestic releases such as Erupted Evil and Goat Tyrant and wisely decided to give these bestial Finns a break.
