Extinguished are a fairly new band from Finland who made a splash with their demo ‘Vomitous Manifestations’. Their form of putrid Death Metal was instantly gratifying for any fan of the genre, sounding like a foul beast emerging from a cave. As if one rancid release wasn’t enough, they’ve decided to grace us with an EP that treads the same rotten path and even elaborates further.
The band sound like the unholy spawn of Autopsy circa Mental Funeral mixed in with that Finnish touch for morbid melodies. What you get is a release that is ugly in every way imaginable. The riffs are thick and chunky, delivered mostly at a mid-tempo pace that has lures you in with hooks and ominous melodies that help create this atmosphere of pure dread. The bass is loud and audible, really help drive those grooves. The drummer also does a great performance here, taking Reifert’s punky approach to percussion in the way he delivers both the fills and the occasional blastbeats. The vocals are low and indecipherable, like a hideous monster that emits a foul stench from its mouth.
When it comes to Autopsy flavoured Death Metal, you can’t go wrong checking out this EP. They perfectly understand how to craft some of the most dirty and nasty riffs that will cause you to gradually degenerate into a raving caveman, whose thirst is only satisfied with more disgusting Death Metal like this.
