After the somewhat disappointing ‘World Domination’, I was curious if the “missing unholy fire” I mentioned before was found again on the following EP ‘In League with Death’.
When I heard the opener ‘Fallen Mountain’, it confirmed my feeling that over the years Demonical has taken a path that moves them further away from the filth Swedish Death Metal can offer and more towards accessibility. That is their right, of course, but as a self-proclaimed fan of anything HM2-related when Death Metal is involved, I can’t help but feel “hmmm, a shame!”.
With ‘Revel in Misanthropia’, a song of the ‘Bloodspell Divine’ promo (2006) is presented, which is more in the style of old Hypocrisy, making it far more to my liking. Besides the aforementioned songs, you can also hear a cover of Onslaught’s ‘Death Metal’, also present on their debut album ‘Servants of the Unlight’, and two live tracks.
Onwards to the next Demonical release, I’m curious to see how it presents itself.
