A new review section: Buried by Time And Dust

We added a new review section, coincidentally another Mayhem reference following 'The Past is Alive', with the title 'Buried by Time and Dust'. Over the years, a lot of promos have been gathering dust simply because a fresh wave of promos arrived the following month and they were consigned to oblivion. We will review them here to make a clear distinction with our other reviews. We will also use it to complete a discography in terms of reviews. Feel free to contact us if you would like to submit your music or would like to join the staff.

Independent Finnish record label The Sinister Flame have delved into deepest, darkest Central America (Guatemala to be exact) to unearth a 2008 full length album entitled ‘Poizon of God’ by Black Metal duo Akherra and Rex Ebvleb, known together as Abyssum. In the early part of 2021 TSF re-released said album on both CD and LP.

‘A Cold Whisper Behind the Cosmos’ opens the album with a slow, somewhat brooding synth dark ambient introduction that soon leads more uplifting yet haunting tones. This then opens into the fast paced synth undertone heavy ‘The Sacred Abyss… (of Thelemic Mysteries)’ which sports some mysterious sounding rasped vocals, raw and abrasive guitar leads and a simple drumming style. It isn’t long though before more synth interludes interrupt the flow of moderate aggression, and obsidian serpentine whispered vocals sound out of the darkness. Whilst the basics such as guitar and drums are kept simple, the mystical sounding keyboard tones are dominant and really hold this album up in terms of quality, as do the menacing and lurking vocal work which adds massively to the gloomy, feral vibe this album gives off.

‘Poizon of God’ is a raw, somewhat clunky sounding album but it is laced with bleak charm, swirling atmospheric ambiance and at the end of the day, is pretty listenable. All in all a good find by The Sinister Flame.
